TACOMA, Wash. – Former NBA All-Star Shawn Kemp is set to be sentenced after pleading guilty to second-degree assault. The incident involved Kemp shooting two people in a car at the Tacoma Mall parking lot in 2023.

Kemp claimed he was firing at someone he believed had broken into his car and asserted that he was shot at first. Prosecutors are seeking a nine-month sentence in Pierce County Jail for the former basketball star.

While Kemp’s guilty plea could impact his cannabis retail license, state regulators may still allow him to continue operating his business. The case has drawn significant attention due to Kemp’s past as an NBA player and his current business endeavors.
