Senator Murray directs $3 million in funds for Spokane County sobering and recovery center

SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane County was the recent recipient of $3 million in Congressional spending, directed by Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), for its expanded sobering and recovery center. The county issued a statement thanking the senator for her assistance.

According to a press release, the county has been working with Murray for the past two years to secure funding for expanding the number of available beds for those recovering from addiction transitioning into treatment.

“This funding will allow us to expand and continue our primary focus of providing timely, recovery-focused care for those who need it most,” Spokane County Board Chair, Commissioner Mary Brooks said.

The Spokane County Crisis Stabilization Center is a pre-booking jail diversion option that opened in 2021.

“When a person comes into the center, they receive a thorough needs assessment, assertive engagement into mental health counseling and substance use disorder treatment services, medication assisted treatment options, and individualized support and recovery plan development,” according to the center’s web page.

“By strategically enhancing our service array and strengthening access to vital behavioral health crisis care, we are laying a solid foundation for a more resilient region,” Director of Spokane County Community Services Justin Johnson said. “This investment brings tangible, meaningful benefits to Spokane County and reflects a shared commitment to the health, safety, and well-being of the citizens we serve.”
