Senator Murray demands transparency in Texas flood response by FEMA

TEXAS – Recent reporting from the New York Times has revealed that thousands of calls went unanswered after devastating floods in Texas, allegedly due to FEMA not renewing contracts to keep call centers operational. The floods, which claimed hundreds of lives, have sparked a debate over FEMA’s response.

Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, speaking on Meet the Press, denied the allegations, stating, “These emergencies need to be conducted exactly how President Trump handled this one. It was that the local responders are the ones who execute the response, the state comes in and manages it, and then the federal government comes in and supports it.”

However, Senator Murray has called for transparency, demanding on social media, “show us the receipts,” and advocating for bipartisan oversight and congressional hearings to address the alleged failures.

The situation remains tense as the Secretary has yet to respond to the Senator’s call for documentation. The community and officials are closely watching developments as they unfold.
