Senator Cantwell says Trump walking away from Obama Iran deal has put us in current crisis

WASHINGTON DC- Today the White House Press Secretary held a brief as tensions continue to escalate in the Middle East.

Karoline Leavitt cited in her brief President Obama’s Iranian Nuclear agreement as “disastrous,” as the administration tries to make a case for negotiations with Tehran.

Senator Cantwell (D-WA) made a statement pertaining to that agreement blaming the Trump administration for walking away from that Obama deal, that deal was 159 pages, and the administration said would have ensured Iran’s nuclear program remained exclusively peaceful.

“According to (a) report by the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran is closer to getting nuclear weapons. That is a real threat to Israel and would destabilize the already volatile Middle East,” said Sen. Cantwell. “We are at this crisis today because President Trump foolishly walked away from President Obama’s 2018 Iran nuclear agreement under which Iran had agreed to dismantle much of its nuclear program and to open its facilities to international inspections, putting more eyes on the ground. The United States should now lead the international community towards a diplomatic solution to avoid a wider war that would have devastating consequences for our ally Israel, the people of the Middle East, as well as the world economy.”
