SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. – Drivers traveling eastbound on I-90 between North Bend and Snoqualmie Pass are experiencing significant delays due to heavy weekend traffic, ongoing road work and a semi-truck crash early Friday morning.

According to the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), a continuous double-lane closure is in effect for road work from milepost 45 to 46, near Exit 45, about 11 miles east of North Bend. WSDOT said that the closure is part of an active construction zone, and there is currently no access to Forest Service Road 9030 (Lookout Point Road) from eastbound I-90.

WSDOT also said that early in the morning, a semi-truck hauling whiskey overturned in the work zone near Exit 45. The truck landed on its side, and the Washington State Patrol said that speed was a contributing factor in the crash. During the removal process, the trailer broke apart, further complicating traffic management efforts, crews said.

Although one of the closed lanes has since reopened, only two lanes remain operational, one on the mainline and one on a temporary bypass ramp. WSDOT said the crash compounded already-heavy weekend traffic, causing in backups for more than 15 miles, reaching near the Highway 18 interchange.

Drivers are advised to expect long delays or consider alternate routes. There is no estimated time for when all lanes will reopen.
