One of the UK’s oldest living sloths has become a father once again – at the grand old age of 35.
Mr. Snuffles and female sloth, Vee, welcomed their latest addition – a female baby sloth born at Hamerton Zoo Park, Huntingdon, Cambs., on November 18, 2025.
The zoo announced the birth shortly before Christmas and are set to name the new sloth in early 2026.
Mr. Snuffles is the second-oldest sloth in the UK, at the grand age of 35 years – the median life expectancy of Two-toed Sloths is 15.
In footage released by the zoo, Mr. Snuffles can be seen carrying his newborn whilst hanging from a branch.
A spokesperson for Hamerton Zoo Park, said: “Hamerton Zoo Park is proud to announce the birth of a healthy female baby sloth.
“Vee is an excellent mother and will carry baby for the first few months before they
‘leave the nest’ and venture off by themselves.
“Mr. Snuffles is the second-oldest sloth in the UK, at the grand age of 35 years. As the median life expectancy of Two-toed Sloths is 15, he is clearly doing very well.
“Despite his age, he is happy to carry baby too to give mum a break when she
needs it.
“This is baby number 4 for this pair, and the fifth baby born at Hamerton Zoo Park in the last four years.
“We have always been successful in our Sloth breeding program – over the last three decades, Hamerton has bred babies that have gone on to many other zoos in the UK and Europe.”
