The fire has grown to 64.1 acres and is 20 percent contained, according to the latest update from the Southeast Washington Interagency Incident Management Team.
The fire began on Monday, May 26, 2025, approximately 8 miles north of Leavenworth near the community of Plain.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it is believed to be human-caused.
More than 200 personnel are involved in the firefighting efforts, with the Baker River Hotshots using drones to survey the area.
Air resources have conducted water drops while ground units work on constructing and improving containment lines.
Evacuation Level 1 advisories, which mean “Be Ready,” are in place for residences and structures around Second Creek Road, extending from the junction of Merry Canyon Road northeast to the junction of the 7804 Road.

DNR has downgraded the fire to 63 acres
LEAVENWORTH, Wash. – The Second Creek Fire has expanded to 153 acres.
According to Chelan County Emergency Communications Manager Ryan Rodruck, Forest Service crews are working alongside the DNR to control the fire, which is affecting both private and forest service land.
No structures have been damaged or threatened and there have been no injuries, Rodruck added.
The fire is believed to be human-caused.
Chelan County Emergency Management has issued a Level 1 Fire Advisory for areas from the intersection of Merry Canyon Road up Second Creek Road, approximately three miles up.
LEAVENWORTH, Wash. – The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is actively responding to the Second Creek Fire, approximately 8 miles north of Leavenworth.
DNR says both air and ground resources are engaged in efforts to control the 55 acre blaze.
