Seattle Seahawks fans buzzing over ‘Pope Seahawks Theory’ ahead of Super Bowl

SEATTLE, Wash. — Online chatter has intensified recently around the “Pope Seahawks Theory,” which suggests a divine connection between the election of a new Pope and the Seattle Seahawks making it to the Super Bowl.

The theory traces back to 2005 when Pope Benedict XVI was chosen. The Seahawks subsequently played against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the 2006 Super Bowl.

The pattern continued with Pope Francis, who was chosen in 2013. Following his selection, Seattle appeared in the Super Bowl back-to-back in 2014 and 2015.

Most recently, Pope Leo XIV was selected, and as discussed throughout the week, the Seahawks have once again made it to the Super Bowl.
