SEATTLE, Wash. – As Super Bowl 60 approaches, Seattle Seahawks fans are gearing up with a mix of excitement and hope.
Kenny Ng, a devoted Seahawks fan, expressed his confidence in the team saying, “Hopefully Patriot fans won’t be too sad when they lose.”
Ng is optimistic about the Seahawks’ chances. “I’m glad they made it back and I think they’re going to win,” he said.
Fans from across the region are getting ready for the big day, but emotions about the game’s outcome remain uncertain. Shai Leeyounger, another Seahawks fan, shared his unwavering support. “I’m born in Washington. Raised. So regardless if we win or lose, I’m still a fan,” he said.
Leeyounger emphasized his commitment to the team, regardless of the result. “It’s not about the destination. It’s the journey to get there,” he said. Reflecting on the Seahawks’ 14-3 season, he added, “We made it to the Super Bowl, that’s a big accomplishment as it is.”
Cindy Johnson, a licensed therapist in Seattle, helps people manage feelings related to sports outcomes. “They’re kind of bummed out dysphoric about it, upset that they didn’t get the win that they had wanted,” she said.
Johnson is advising fans from both sides to prioritize their health during the Super Bowl. “Watching out for that alcohol consumption, because a lot of people are already drinking and, and having fun at the game, enjoying it. And then sometimes people, when they feel down, tend to self-medicate and drink more in order to numb out some of the feelings and drown their sorrows,” she said.
While sports fan depression is typically short-lived, Johnson suggests that discussing the Super Bowl outcome with other fans can be helpful.
Leeyounger remains hopeful. “If we do win, that’s a good plus,” he said. However, he also looks forward to future opportunities. “If we don’t, at least we made it. And, you know, try again next year.”
Ng also has a positive outlook on a potential loss. “Sad,” he admitted, but he believes in the team’s resilience. “They’ll come back again if they lose.”
If the Seahawks win, Ng plans to celebrate in style. “Probably get more Seahawks merchandise,” he said.
