SPOKANE, Wash. – SCRAPS will not reopen its adult dog adoption floor as expected on January 14, Spokane County announced in a social media post, as more parvovirus cases were detected in adult dogs over the weekend.
“All affected animals are receiving treatment, and we are continuing our enhanced cleaning and sanitation protocols for an additional 14 days,” the county said.
If no new cases are detected in the 14-day period, the county said SCRAPS would reopen then.
Spokane County also said that per veterinarian recommendations, vaccine boosters will be administered to all dogs in their facility every two weeks, regardless of vaccination status.
Puppies remain available for adoption, as they are housed in a separate room of the facility. The county says the puppies have not been exposed to the virus and have been cleared by the veterinarian.
