NINE MILE FALLS, Wash. – The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office is warning locals about potential scam calls impersonating law enforcement officers in

The sheriff’s office said in a press release that they’re received numerous reports of such calls in the area.

The office also emphasized that deputies are contacting residents in the evacuation through door-to-door notification only, and not via phone calls.

To find out if you are currently under an evacuation order, visit the Official Spokane Regional Emergency Communications (SREC) Evacuation Map at this link.

If you are still unsure after checking the map, call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.

“Don’t just take the word of someone claiming to be law enforcement without confirming the need,” the sheriff’s office said. “It could leave your home and property unprotected and susceptible to criminals masquerading as law enforcement.”

Anyone without a legitimate need to be in the area of the fire should stay home and stay away, the sheriff’s office said.
