SANDPOINT, Idaho – Berit Ollestad, a Sandpoint resident, took on a significant challenge by climbing the One World Trade Center to honor the heroes of 9/11 and veterans.

Ollestad has raised over $3,000 for the Wounded Warrior Project through her efforts.

The climb involved 102 flights of stairs, totaling 2,226 steps, and participants were not allowed to bring anything with them.

Ollestad said her work as a journalist covering veterans inspired her to take on this task.

As she climbed, her thoughts were with the men and women who lost their lives on 9/11.

“Most of the other participants were primarily from New Jersey, New York and having them share their stories about why they’re doing it, just really humbled me and made me really thankful that I was able to participate and bring awareness to the Wounded Warrior project,” she said.

Ollestad hopes to tackle the climb again in the future.

She will continue raising money for the Wounded Warrior Project until the end of the month.
