SANDPOINT, Idaho – The city of Sandpoint is seeking voter approval for a bond to fund major upgrades to its wastewater plant. The vote is set for next Tuesday.
According to the city website, the bond would enable the city to secure $130 million in loans for the project. The funds are intended to replace outdated systems, aiming to protect water quality and reduce energy consumption.
The city plans to repay the loans through sewer revenues. Consequently, water bills are expected to rise by about 106% over five years.
City officials warn that if the bond does not pass, the project will still proceed. In that scenario, water bills could increase by as much as 600% over the same period.
