SANDPOINT, Idaho – A Sandpoint High School student was arrested for making threats of violence on school grounds, according to the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office said a report was received from Ponderay on Sunday, December 14, about a threatening group text from a 14-year-old student. The threats were related to the safety of students if they attended school on Monday, December 15.
Local authorities including Ponderay Police, Sandpoint Police, the Lake Pend Oreille School District and the Sheriff’s Office worked together during the investigation.
The student was informed that he was temporarily barred from attending school and all weapons in the home were voluntarily removed, the sheriff’s office said.
Further investigation on December 15 revealed that the threats were credible, the sheriff’s office added.
Detectives said they found additional evidence on the student’s phone, social media and emails. A probable cause affidavit was presented to the court, resulting in an arrest warrant for threatening violence upon school grounds.
The student was arrested and booked into the Bonner County Juvenile Detention Unit.
