San Francisco Super Bowl preparations focus on sustainability

SAN FRANCISCO – As the city gears up for the Super Bowl, efforts are underway to enhance sustainability at the stadium.

A representative shared the strategy for minimizing waste at this year’s event. “So we always match the stadium where they are. And we’re lucky this year to be in a stadium that’s already got a pretty good baseline for recycling for the way that they manage their waste and their carbon footprint. But we’re always looking at what can we do to get to the next echelon,” they said.

The focus this year is on additional waste sorting and reducing the carbon footprint. The representative emphasized the goal of improving with each event. “Our goal whenever we get on site is to always meet the stadium or the venue where they are to and get a little better.”

Kimberly highlighted the broader impact of the Super Bowl preparations. “If you look behind at the stadium there are miles and miles of fence mesh. There is artificial turf, there is food donations. I think it was about a quarter million pounds that we donated to the local community last year,” she said. She noted the extensive outreach to organizations in the Bay area, with efforts continuing even a week after the Super Bowl.

The preparations showcase a commitment to sustainability and community support, setting a precedent for future events.
