Sage Brush Fire contained near Athol

UPDATE: September 11 at 6:35 p.m.

The Idaho Department of Lands (IDL) reported that after reaching a size of 47 acres, the Sage Brush Fire has been 100% contained.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire, which ignited about 3 miles northeast of Athol.

According to the IDL, crews will continue mop-up operations throughout the next few days, working to put out any remaining spot fires and extinguish all burning material from the fire’s perimeter inward.

The public was urged to continue avoiding trails and roads where fire crews are working.

UPDATE: September 8 at 10:50 p.m.

Evacuation orders have been downgraded to Level 1 “Get Ready”.’

The Bonner County Sheriff’s Office had previously issued evacuation orders for several roads near the blaze.

According to the Idaho Department of Lands, the fire has burned 40 acres so far.

An evacuation center has been set up at Real Life Ministries in Athol for those affected.

ATHOL, Idaho – The Sage Brush Fire, burning approximately 3 miles northeast of Athol, has grown to an estimated size between 10 and 15 acres, prompting the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office to issue evacuation orders for residents in the area.

According to Bonner County Emergency Management (BCEM), Level 3 “Go” evacuation orders have been issued for the station off Mi Road, as well as for residents on Candle Hill Road, Sagebrush Way, Parkwood Drive, Zeeland Road, Rain Drive and Angelwood Lane.

Level 2 “Ready” evacuation advisories have been issued for residents in the area of Rocksprings, Doe Run, Hatchet Lane, Genesis Lane, Trails End, Misty Meadows, Rodeo Road and Resort Road.

BCEM announced that an evacuation center has been established at Real Life Ministries on 30447 North Roughstock Road in Athol. Additionally, large animals displaced by evacuations can be sheltered at the Bonner County Fairgrounds.

Fire crews are actively battling the fire, and BCEM added that Idaho Department of Lands resources have been dispatched to the scene, with additional resources requested.
