Rocky Mountain Rodeo Challenge canceled in Spokane over alleged contract dispute

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Rocky Mountain Rodeo Challenge originally scheduled for May 16-17 has been cancelled after a dispute between the Spokane Arena and the event organizers.

The Spokane Arena released ‘misinformation’ regarding the cancellation of the rodeo in a press release after the rodeo had claimed they cancelled without notice.

According to the Spokane Arena, the event was canceled due to the organizers’ failure to meet venue requirements, including signing a contract, providing proof of insurance, and paying a deposit.

Despite what the Spokane Arena described as multiple attempts to secure the necessary documents, they say the deadline was missed.

The Spokane Arena said they were still open to rescheduling the event to accommodate low ticket sales, but organizers declined.

They also said they learned of the cancellation through the event organizers’ website and email.

The arena clarified that the cancellation was not to make room for a potential Spokane Chiefs playoff game.

In contrast, the rodeo released a statement saying, “Regretfully, we have been informed that the Spokane Arena, without notice, has cancelled our event scheduled for May 16-17, to make room for their Chiefs’ Hockey Playoff Series.”

They expressed disappointment, saying, “Unfortunately, the Spokane Arena and Spokane Public Facilities District have made it impossible for the Rocky Mountain Rodeo Challenge to move forward as scheduled for 2025.”

The social media post noted that the rodeo was discouraged with the Spokane Arena decision to cancel the event and said they were thankful for the support they had received from the community.

This was the first time that Rocky Mountain Rodeo Challenge was set to take place in Spokane.

The Rocky Mountain Rodeo Challenge said they have not been given any ticket holder contact information and the Spokane Arena will take care of refunds through TicketsWest.

The Spokane Arena said ticket purchasers have been notified via email. Those who bought tickets with a credit card will receive refunds automatically within 14 business days. Cash purchasers must visit the box office for a refund.

For tickets bought through third-party sellers, patrons need to contact the seller for assistance.
