SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – The Spokane County Sheriff’s received a call on October 23 around 12:30 p.m. from a woman living in Rockford, who said she had found a stranger sitting in her car.

The caller told deputies that the car was parked in her driveway and that she also suspected that the stranger had rummaged through her barn, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies responded to the scene, around 1st Street and D street, and saw a man matching the description from the caller while on the way. The suspect was walking along the creek, but followed commands when deputies pulled over to detain him.

After seeing him, the woman confirmed the identity of the suspect as the stranger who had been in her car.

After the suspect was informed of his rights and agreed to answer questions, he told deputies that he had previously contacted a woman online who offered to let him stay with her.

He said he had walked from Plummer to what he thought was her home and decided to wait inside the car for her.

When the homeowner walked out and asked him what he was doing, he said he realized he was at the wrong house and left.

Deputies developed probable cause to arrest the suspect and charged him with Vehicle Prowling and Criminal Trespassing.

During the arrest, deputies found a baggie with 14.7 grams of what they believed to be methamphetamine on the suspect. They conducted a field test on the substance and found a positive result for methamphetamine and fentanyl.

The suspect was booked into the Spokane County Jail for misdemeanor charges of criminal trespassing, vehicle prowling and possession of a controlled substance.

The next day, the suspect was released on his own recognizance by order of Spokane County District Court Judge A. Biviano.
