SPOKANE, Wash. – Southbound lanes on Country Homes Boulevard are currently closed for construction work on sewer and pavement issues and will remain closed until the first week of October.
Spokane County Public Works confirmed the plan for the construction is to tear up the pavement and lay down an additional redundant sewer line before repaving the road.
A representative from Public Works confirmed that this type of construction is common and planned in advance.
Becky Spangle, a construction manager from Spokane County, told Non Stop Local that the Country Homes sewer project is not related to the sewer break on Wall in July.
However, she said the project on Country Homes can eliminate future emergencies like the sewer main break.
“It’s for that exact need though — so if we have an issue with the existing sewer line, we have a way to transfer the system over and not shut everyone down,” Spangle said.
Installing the sewer main should take 45 business days. Including the additional 20 days for road paving, the project is on track to finish in October.
In the meantime, drivers are being rerouted.
“We retimed a signal this morning at Country Homes and Wall so that both of the lanes go left and go south on Wall, which will make the timing through that signal more efficient,” Spangle said.
She added that this reroute should not significantly increase travel time, unlike the half-mile closure on Hatch Road.
Hatch Road will undergo 500 feet of sewer repairs and complete repaving as part of phase two of the Hatch construction.
“It’s a little bit larger detour. You got to expect a little bit more time to take Little Spokane Drive around Hatch for sure,” Spangle said.
Both projects are set to finish in October, and while Spangle says travel times are not likely to be effected significantly, drivers may see delays in this area.
