COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – Rick Rasmussen has been named the interim trustee for Zone 1 in the Coeur d’Alene School District. This decision was made during a special board meeting on Monday evening, the district said in a release.

Rasmussen replaces Allie Anderton and will serve until December 31, 2025. His term will end after the November 2025 election, when voters will choose a trustee for a four-year term. He will begin his duties following a swearing-in at the meeting on July 14.

Board Chair Rebecca Smith expressed confidence in Rasmussen’s capabilities. “Rick’s thoughtful perspective, dedication to our students and families, and business acumen make him a great addition to the board,” she said.

Rasmussen, a lifelong resident of Coeur d’Alene, is the CEO of Northwest Specialty Hospital in Post Falls. He has been a strong advocate for public education, frequently volunteering and promoting stronger school-community connections, the district said.

Anderton stepped down from the position following an arrest in a DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia investigation.

Court documents revealed that Anderton was stopped by a Post Falls Police officer near Beck Road and Expo Parkway around 1:00 a.m. on Easter. The stop was initiated due to a taillight issue, and the officer noted signs of impairment when asking for Anderton’s ID, police said.

During the investigation, police said the officer found a burnt piece of tinfoil and a dollar bill with white powder residue in Anderton’s possession and that Anderton admitted to using the tin foil to smoke cocaine earlier that night.
