Richard Barker steps down from Eastern Washington U.S. Attorney role

SPOKANE, Wash. – Richard Barker has stepped down as acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington. After five months in office, Barker is returning to private practice in Spokane.

Barker previously served as an assistant U.S. Attorney in Washington, D.C. from 2014 to 2019. He later joined the Eastern District of Washington as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Spokane office.

In a release, Barker expressed his sentiments about his tenure, stating, “Serving as a federal prosecutor has been the highlight of my career. It has been an honor to represent the United States and seek justice for victims and their families.”

The U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that Stephanie Van Marder will now fill the role of acting United States attorney for the Eastern District of Washington.
