Residents concerned after overnight shooting in north Spokane

SPOKANE, Wash. – Residents in north Spokane are expressing concerns following an overnight shooting near Courtland and Cedar, just south of the Garland area.

Spokane police reported finding 40 to 42 shell casings in the road, but they did not locate a suspect and no injuries were reported.

Residents in the area, some of whom prefer to remain anonymous, are worried about safety on the block. Last July, a woman was killed in a deadly shooting on the same street.

“The groups of people that are causing the problems keep gathering after dark and now they have ‘no parking signs.’ Those signs are supposed to keep people from being on the hill at night. And yet, it still happens,” a concerned resident said.

Council Member Kitty Klitzke stated she is aware of the residents’ concerns and is staying in touch with police as they investigate the shooting.
