WASHINGTON- A team of special operatives took Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife into custody just 24 hours ago. This significant event has sparked reactions from politicians across the country, including locally.

Representative Michael Baumgartner from Washington weighed in on the development.

“What the U.S. military carried out over the weekend was a great step towards making all of America safer, particularly all of the Western Hemisphere,” said Baumgartner. “The people of Venezuela deserve much better than dictator Maduro.”

President Trump announced that the U.S. will now oversee Venezuela and has not ruled out deploying U.S. forces to the country.

Maduro and his wife are set to appear in federal court tomorrow, facing charges related to drugs and weapons.
