WASHINGTON D.C. – Renaming the Department of Defense to the Department of War might cost U.S. taxpayers up to $125 million, depending on the scope and speed of the change.
This estimate comes from an analysis released today by the Congressional Budget Office.
President Donald Trump signed the executive order in September authorizing the Department of War as a secondary title for the Pentagon. Trump stated that the change aims to signal to the world that the U.S. is a formidable force.
Congress must formally approve the new name for the department.
