Red Bridge Road evacuation levels reduced as fire conditions improve

KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. – As of 6:00 p.m., evacuation levels for the Red Bridge Fire area have been lowered, according to the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office.

Properties on the north side of Red Bridge Road from the 3100 block to the 5500 block and all properties on Wiehl Road, Pine Duff Drive, Loping Lane, Nordic Lane, and Arrowleaf Lane have been downgraded from Level 3 to Level 2.

On the south side of Red Bridge Road, properties from the 5500 block east to Teanaway Road to SR-970 have been reduced from Level 2 to Level 1.

Red Bridge Road has been closed to non-residents. Residents and property owners are urged to stay out of the area unless necessary.

Containment of the Red Bridge Road Fire increased to 20% Tuesday night, according to the Southwest Washington Interagency Incident Management Team.

Firefighters focused on improving lines and extinguishing fires near structures overnight, according to their release.

They explained that while containment does not mean that the fire is extinguished, it indicates that the fire is controlled and will not spread past control lines.

Individuals seeking shelter can contact the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office.

Level two “Get Set” evacuations have expanded. They now include properties from the 5500 block of Red Bridge Road east to Teanaway Road on the south side of Red Bridge Road to State Route 970. Drivers should avoid the highway.

The Southeast Washington Incident Management Team reported that the Red Bridge fire is not moving and is smoldering within the lines surrounding it.

They said that the fire is not contained and is 44 acres in size. It has damaged two structures and caused one displacement.

There are no changes to evacuation notices and drivers should avoid SR 970.

UPDATE: June 9 at 8:15 p.m.

The U.S. Forest Service has taken command of firefighting efforts in the Red Bridge fire zone, where at least two structures have been destroyed, the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) said in a release.

KCSO said the total number of losses remains uncertain until mop-up operations are complete.

Residents of the known burned homes have been contacted and provided with assistance.

Anyone needing overnight shelter at the Centennial Center in Cle Elum is urged to notify Chief Deputy Darren Higashiyama at 509-201-6013.

CLE ELUM, Wash. – A 60 acre fire threatening 50 structures north of Red Bridge Road near Cle Elum is prompting urgent evacuations in the area.

The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office announced in a release that Red Bridge Road is closed between Masterson and Teanaway Road, and deputies have evacuated all residences in the immediate vicinity.

Residents north and east to Teanaway River have been issued a level 3 “EVACUATE NOW” order.

Deputies are also notifying other residents up the Teanaway with lower-level evacuation notices.

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is assisting local fire teams with aerial and ground resources.

Authorities urge the public to avoid the area to allow for emergency traffic.
