Race to replace Spokane County Prosecutor narrows to three candidates

SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – The race to replace Spokane County Prosecutor Larry Haskell is intensifying as more than 120 Republican precinct officers convened in Mead to nominate three candidates for the position. This step is necessary when a partisan role becomes vacant midterm.

Acting Prosecutor Preston McCollum led the nominations with nearly 80 votes. He was followed by Assistant Attorney General Steve Garvin and Attorney Marshal Casey.

The next step involves Spokane County commissioners, who will select one of the three nominees to complete Haskell’s term. If the commissioners cannot reach a decision, the governor will make the appointment.

Voters will ultimately decide who will fill the position when it appears on the ballot in 2026.
