Pullman pedestrian bridge repairs on track for August completion

PULLMAN, Wash. – The City of Pullman is making progress on repairing the Pine Street Plaza pedestrian bridge downtown, which was dislodged during a February flood.

Public Works Director Sean Wells shared a video update, indicating that the city has secured most of the necessary permits to reset the bridge. The next step involves hiring a contractor.

“We’re hoping that that whole process takes anywhere from a couple days on each phase,” Wells said. “So they may not be back to back to back. Depends on timing and such.”

The city aims to have the bridge open by the end of August.

The 20-year-old bridge was initially designed to float off its footings during high water and swing to the side of the Palouse River. However, during the February flood, it failed to float across the river and became lodged just off its footings.

The bridge has remained closed since the incident, but city officials are optimistic about its reopening in the coming months.
