PULLMAN, Wash. – A 45-year-old man from Pullman will serve time in jail after being convicted of slashing his neighbors’ tires last winter.
Benjamin Rinehart was sentenced to 90 days in jail for second-degree malicious mischief. A jury found him guilty of slashing tires on Spaulding Street over several weeks.
Judge Roger Sandberg described the incident as a “senseless crime.”
In addition to his jail time, Rinehart must pay nearly $2,500 in restitution and undergo a mental health evaluation. He has the opportunity to reduce his sentence to 60 days if he pays the full amount within a month.
Rinehart has no prior criminal history and did not provide a reason for the vandalism.
