Public Works Week in Eastern Washington: Celebrating essential services

SPOKANE, Wash. – City and county governments across Eastern Washington are celebrating National Public Works Week.

Public Works Week, established in 1960, runs from May 18 – 24.

Public works professionals are responsible for transportation, water treatment and environmental stewardship, ensuring cities and counties remain a safe and vibrant place to live and work.

Mayors this week signed proclamations highlighting the integral role public works professionals play in maintaining the city’s infrastructure.

In a release, Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown acknowledged the nearly 750 employees who are dedicated to planning, designing, and maintaining essential services such as clean drinking water, waste collection and safe wastewater treatment.

In the City of Pasco, Mayor Pete Serrano read and presented a proclamation to highlight the role of public works professionals as they respond to emergencies and improve infrastructure.

And in the City of Kennewick, Mayor Gretl Crawford encouraged residents in a proclamation to participate in events and ceremonies during this week to honor these vital contributions.
