Protesters gather outside Spokane ICE office after video shows detainees in shackles

SPOKANE — About 50 people protested outside the Spokane ICE headquarters on Cataldo Avenue after new video showed six detainees being transported in shackles to another ICE detention facility.

The group “Get the ICE Out Wednesdays” captured the moment on video showing six detainees escorted by ICE officers into a white van.

The video prompted the group to organize a protest beyond their regular Wednesday demonstrations.

“The shackles are immense. I mean, they have chains that are long. I don’t know why they’re that long,” said Greg Houff, a protester. “It just seems really demeaning what’s being done to them.”

About 10 volunteering peacekeepers who wore orange vests to keep the protest calm and peaceful.

Organizers also shared that they organized the protest today to join in on the nation-wide protests at ICE offices.

“We are now almost a year and a half into the second Trump administration, and unfortunately, we are just not seeing a decline in what’s like the federal overreach,” said Hadley Morrow, a community organizer and protester.

“This, of course, is a protest, against ice. But, you know, if we’re going to be honest about it, we’re really protesting Trump’s policies, too,” Houff said.
