Pressure to reopen post street amid delays

SPOKANE, Wash. – Construction on the Peyton Building in downtown Spokane has caused ongoing traffic disruptions on Post Street. Owned by 4 Degrees Real Estate, led by Jordan Tampien and his brother Joel, the project has left community members and local businesses dealing with blocked roadways.

City officials mentioned that the road might reopen soon, not due to completed construction, but because work seems to have halted.

Keenan Leader, who regularly walks in the area, noted, “Yeah, every lunch break I take a little walk.” He added, “Sidewalks are still open, but driving is a little complicated but that’s fine. You know you just work around it.”

However, the lack of progress has been challenging for local businesses. One business owner commented, “It’s been a long time, but I’m excited to see when it’s finished.” Many have observed no construction activity since the fences were reinstalled after Hoopfest.

City of Spokane’s Erin Hut explained, “But at this point it is blocked and if construction is delayed, which we’ve heard some inklings of, we’re going to try and reopen that road back up so people can get through there.” They are attempting to contact Jordan Tampien regarding the stalled project. Hut stated, “And we have requested that if construction is delayed that we remove the fencing and open that part of the road back up.”

The original timeline projected completion by March 2026. However, that may no longer be feasible. “The last that I heard that he was in contact with our community economic development Director this morning and they were talking about that timeline so hopefully will know soon,” Hut said.

The multi-million-dollar project aims to add 96 new apartment units to the Peyton Building. But for now, the scaffolding remains empty. Leader remarked, “It’s right in the middle of everything right now and you’re right there’s a lot of businesses there that I’m sure I’ve been affected for sure.”

Ainsley Anderson reached out to Jordan Tampien for clarification on the next steps but has not yet received a response. Readers can stay updated on the situation by checking NonStopLocal.com.
