BOISE, Idaho — President Donald Trump weighed in Monday on the upcoming sentencing of Bryan Kohberger, who pleaded guilty to the 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students as part of a plea deal.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump urged the judge to have Kohberger explain his motives for the killings.

He also addressed the plea agreement, writing, “While life imprisonment is tough, it’s certainly better than receiving the death penalty.”

The Goncalves family responded on social media, saying they remain focused on honoring the victims lives.

Kohberger is scheduled to be sentenced Wednesday July 23, in Ada County District Court in Boise. Nonstop Local will provide continuing coverage.
