COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — Prescribed fires are planned to take place in the Idaho Panhandle National Forests later this week.
According to the U.S. Forest Service, these prescribed fires are planned for the Boulder, Snow, Hellroaring and Twentymile Creek drainages in the Bonners Ferry Ranger District, near Jasper Mountain north of Priest River in the Priest Lake Ranger District, from the Fernan saddle area to Burn Cabin summit, east of 4th of July Pass in the Mason Creek drainage, the Short Creek drainage, and multiple drainages within the Upper North Fork Coeur d’Alene River Basin in the Coeur d’Alene River Ranger District, and along the St Joe Divide, near the historic Red Ives Ranger Station, in the Marble Creek drainage, and in the Malin Creek drainage in the St. Joe Ranger District.
The Forest Service says those areas may close to the public for several days for public safety.
People living in those areas may see smoke during the prescribed burns. When driving, slow down and turn on headlights when you see smoke on the road.
The Forest Service says it will look at the weather conditions in the hours before a burn is scheduled. If the conditions call for it, prescribed burns may be canceled.
