Postal workers in Spokane and Wenatchee rally for better pay

SPOKANE, Wash. – Postal service workers from the National Association of Letter Carriers rallied today across the region advocating for better pay and fair contracts. The rally included both current and retired workers who gathered at the Division Street Bridge to highlight the increasing demands of their work amid staffing shortages and high turnover rates.

The National Association of Letter Carriers stated that postal workers are handling more packages than ever in addition to regular mail. About 300,000 mail carriers are represented by the union.

In the Wenatchee Valley, mail carriers also rallied with similar demands. They called for their next contract to account for inflation. While postal service workers are not legally allowed to strike, they expressed their intent to continue rallying if negotiations do not progress favorably.

Contracts for workers in both Spokane and Wenatchee typically last three years, with negotiations expected to continue over the next few months.
