POST FALLS – The Post Falls Museum and Historical Society has opened a new exhibit honoring local veterans ahead of Memorial Day.
The museum on the corner of 4th and Spokane features military artifacts donated by Post Falls families. The exhibit opens ahead of America’s 250th anniversary.
Kristine King, president of the Post Falls Historical Society, created the display after processing donations.
“Because I do all of the intakes, as I’m looking through things I saw a commonality that we had a lot of military stuff that had been donated to us and I thought to myself ‘what would be a better compliment to America 250 than honoring our Post Falls veterans,'” King said.
The exhibit tells stories of ordinary Post Falls residents who served in the military.
King works daily at the museum to preserve the town’s history.
“I come in, I do research, I intake things that people will donate to us, I also change out the displays and try and create interest in the community and also reflect our community with the things that we share here,” she said.
King views the museum’s collection as more than old artifacts.
“We don’t look at the things we have in the Post Falls History Museum as things that dead people owned. We have people that lived real lives, real every day lives that did amazing things to build our community,” King said.
The museum is open Wednesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
