POST FALLS, Idaho – A Post Falls man is facing the possibility of a death sentence on charges of murder in connection with the deadly shooting of another man last February.
The Kootenai County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office filed a notice of intent to seek the death penalty against Jason Rook, 47. The notice cites multiple aggravating circumstances, including that the murder was “especially heinous, atrocious or cruel, manifesting exceptional depravity.”
The victim, Nathan Rogers, was found dead in a pool of blood in a kitchen. The scene showed signs of a violent struggle, with blood spatter and bullet casings throughout the residence, court documents said.
Investigators said Rook was identified as the shooter through additional surveillance footage, witness statements and a photo lineup. Rook has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
In response to the notice of intent to seek the death penalty, a subsequent notice in Kootenai County Court, filed on May 30, 2025, states that the case will proceed with a motion hearing scheduled for July 31, 2025.
Rook’s legal representation has filed multiple motions, including objections to the death penalty and requests to strike certain aggravators.
A follow-up hearing is set for August 15, 2025, to address these motions.
