Port Orchard man sentenced for 2023 Ellensburg jewelry store burglary

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Ellensburg Police Department reported that Gary Moyer, a 39-year-old man from Port Orchard, pleaded guilty to burglary and theft on November 20. He was sentenced to 65 months in prison for his involvement in a 2023 jewelry store burglary.

The incident occurred on January 8, 2023, when multiple suspects crashed a stolen vehicle into the jewelry store’s door to get inside, causing approximately $16,000 in damage. According to EPD, the suspects stole over $30,000 in jewelry before the alarm drove them out of the store.

Police quickly recovered the abandoned stolen vehicle just outside of Ellensburg.

EPD officers and detectives identified two suspects, including Moyer, by collecting DNA, phone records and video surveillance from the scene.

Moyer accepted a plea agreement for the charges before his sentencing. Another suspect identified during the investigation is still awaiting trial.
