SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A major traffic alert is on the horizon for Spokane Valley as Pines Road will be fully closed for construction from Sunday morning through Monday afternoon.
The City of Spokane Valley announced that crews will close Pines Road from Pinecroft Road to Trent Avenue. This is part of a future grade separation project designed to enhance safety and efficiency by allowing vehicles to travel beneath a bridge.
Detours will be in place at Pines Road and Mansfield Avenue for those approaching from the south. Travelers from the north will be directed onto University Road and Sullivan Road.
This closure is a step towards a significant infrastructure upgrade in the area. The project includes adding a second rail track by BNSF Railway.
Additional benefits of the project include new sidewalks, bike paths and a new trailhead for the Centennial Trail. This trailhead will feature parking, restrooms and electric vehicle charging stations.
The project is estimated at nearly $48 million, funded through multiple grants and appropriations. Construction is expected to begin in winter 2025 and continue through 2026.
