CHENEY, Wash. – Former Eastern Washington University and University of Idaho women’s soccer coach Pete Showler hit the fairways with a mission. Showler, along with Jason Johnson from Fisher Putters, played 72 holes of golf yesterday to support Purple Heart Homes.

The event aimed to raise awareness and funds for homeless or aging veterans, or veterans with disabilities. “To bring awareness to Veteran needs and as a thank you for all they have done and given,” said Showler.

Showler and Johnson were joined by guest golfers at various times throughout the day. The duo set a target to raise $1,000, but with no way to track it, the focus was also on increasing awareness about veterans’ needs.

For those looking to support the cause, Showler encourages visiting their home page to donate. The funds will help Purple Heart Homes provide homes and work opportunities for veterans in need.

As for the future of the event, Showler mentioned it could become a recurring effort. He also emphasized the importance of supporting veterans, saying, “Please be supportive and understanding of those who have served for our country and if you are able to donate, please do, however small or large, it all makes a difference.”

This event took place at The Plains Golf Course in Spokane County.
