Person killed in Spokane shooting near Gonzaga University, police say

The Spokane Police Department said in a press release that major crimes detectives are investigating the fatal shooting that occurred just a few blocks away from Gonzaga’s campus on Friday night.

Spokane police said that the shooting occurred in the area of Mission Avenue and Cincinnati Street, after saying previously it occurred near East Sinto Avenue and Cincinnati Street.

Officers responded to the scene at around 7:00 p.m. on October 17, where they found a man with a gunshot wound. SPD said medics arrived to quickly transport him to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.

“Initial information suggests that the parties involved were known to each other and this was not a random act of violence,” SPD said.

SPD said additional information would be released “as warranted,” but anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to contact Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.

Gonzaga University responded on Saturday to our inquiries regarding the shooting.

“We are aware of the shooting that occurred near East Sinto Avenue and North Cincinnati Street last night. No ZagAlert was issued, as there was no ongoing threat to the Gonzaga community,” Thea Skokan, Gonzaga’s Communications Specialist, stated.

SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Police Department confirmed that one person was shot and killed Friday night near Gonzaga University.

According to police, the shooting happened around 7 p.m. in the area of East Sinto Avenue and North Cincinnati Street.

The Spokane Police Department responded to a possible shooting in the area of East Sinto Avenue and North Cincinnati Street on Friday night, around 7 p.m.

NonStop Local personnel on the scene observed SPD officers arrive and begin collecting evidence.

No further information has been shared at this time.

We have reached out to Gonzaga University to see if the incident has affected their operations on campus. According to students on campus, there have been no notifications sent through the ZagAlert system regarding the situation.
