Pend Oreille County activates fire-safe mode amid wildfire risk

PEND OREILLE COUNTY, Wash. – The Pend Oreille County Public Utility District (PUD) has activated its fire-safe mode due to an increased risk of wildfires in the area.

The fire-safe mode is designed to automatically shut off power if a problem arises, such as a tree falling onto a power line. This precaution is implemented to greatly reduce the risk of sparks that could potentially ignite a wildfire.

While this mode may result in more power outages, the priority is to ensure the safety of the community by minimizing fire hazards.

The PUD plans to keep the fire-safe mode active until weather conditions improve and the fire danger decreases.

For residents, it’s important to be prepared for potential power interruptions during this period.
