PULLMAN, Wash. – The downtown pedestrian bridge in Pullman remains closed due to damage from flooding earlier this year, disappointing recent graduates who hoped to take cap and gown photos there.
Pullman’s Public Works Director, Sean Wells, provided an update on the bridge’s status. He stated that it may take four to five months before the bridge is repositioned and reopened for public use.
Wells explained that inspections could not occur until mid-April when water levels decreased. While the bridge’s structure remains intact, the damaged floats beneath it require replacement. Additionally, bank reinforcement on the opposite side is necessary before repositioning the bridge.
The city is collaborating with Avista to determine if power lines need relocation for crane access to the site.
