WASHINGTON – Governor Bob Ferguson and Washington Secretary of Transportation Julie Meredith gave update on repairs on US 2 Friday after it was damaged in recent flooding.

The Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will reopen the eastern portion of of US 2 between Leavenworth and Stevens Pass on Monday.

A pilot car will be used for about eight miles up to the summit from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm.

Detours and the pilot car are expected to be in operation for a month.

US 2 at Skykomish is still closed from mile marker 50 to 64 as of Friday. Crews are scheduled to inspect the bridge in the area on Monday to see if it can reopen to traffic.

According to WSDOT, crews are working to clear debris and working with bridge inspectors, geotechnical engineers and other specialists to evaluate damage and develop repair plans.

At Tumwater Canyon, US 2 is closed from east of Coles Corner to Leavenworth and is expected to be closed through mid-March.

A detour to access the open portion of US 2 is Chumstick Highway. WSDOT is reminding travelers taking this detour that the road is a rural country road wit lower speeds and bridge restrictions.

Another update on US 2 will come from Gov. Ferguson on Tuesday from Skykomish at 10:00 am.
