OTIS ORCHARDS, Wash. – Spokane County and Spokane Valley deputies faced off against a wanted domestic violence suspect in an Otis Orchards home before clearing a search warrant and entering the home to arrest him.
Deputies first responded to the scene on November 24 around 3:30 p.m. at the 19600 block of East Wellesley Avenue.
A release from the Spokane Sheriff’s Office on November 25 described the following narrative of the suspect’s arrest.
The caller said the suspect had entered a home he was barred from due to his domestic violence court order of protection and said he was afraid for the safety of the suspect and the woman inside the home.
The caller said the suspect may have had access to firearms.
When deputies arrived, they were able to contact the woman and remove her from the scene to a safe place.
During their response, deputies learned that the suspect was likely inside the home, had access to knives, could be in crisis and might try to provoke them into shooting him.
Deputies made a perimeter around the house and established probable cause for residential burglary and violation of a domestic violence order of protection.
Warrant Service Group SWAT team members, K9 units and drone operators joined the deputies at this time.
After multiple announcements advising the suspect to surrender peacefully and warning him of the possible use of force, K9s and chemical irritants – and a check to ensure the suspect could hear the warnings – the K9 team entered the house and found the suspect, who was trying to hide.
The suspect was taken into custody, given medical treatment and booked into the Spokane County Jail for residential burglary and violation of a domestic violence order of protection.
