OTHELLO, Wash. – Othello is making plans to establish its own fire department, ending its current contract with Adams County Fire Protection District Five. This decision follows the inability to reach a new service agreement.
To prepare for the transition, Othello has adopted a multi-phased plan. Phase one involves assessing the city’s current fire-related assets such as facilities and equipment currently used by the district. Additionally, this phase includes developing a proposed operating budget.
The transition is set to take effect on May 1, 2026. Othello is also exploring mutual aid agreements to ensure cooperation between agencies after the transition.
