Othello man who fled to Texas arrested, sentenced for sex with a minor

OTHELLO, Wash. – A 28-year-old from Othello was sentenced to 59-months in state prison after pleading guilty to receive a lighter sentence.

The convicted man, Jesus Antonio Gutierrez-Guerrero, was first arrested in 2021 for admitting to sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl at his residence in Othello.

He pleaded guilty in 2022 to reduced charge of “Unlawful Imprisonment with Sexual Motivation” and registered as a sex offender with an order to have no contact with the victim, according to the Othello Police Department.

In 2022, the previous victim ran away from home and went missing for 18 months.

She was found in 2023 at a hospital in Moses Lake, where she gave birth at age 15 to a baby boy.

The Othello Police Department said hospital staff reported “suspicious circumstances” surrounding the birth, prompting it to renew the investigation.

The investigation revealed that Gutierrez-Guerrero was the father of the child and had been with the victim in the period she was missing, the Othello Police Department said.

U.S. Marshalls , where he had fled. He spent 18 months in federal prison for failing to register as a sex offender and crossing state lines before he was extradited back to Adams County.

On Wednesday, Gutierrez-Guerrero was sentenced to 59 months in Washington state prison, followed by 36 months of community custody.

The Othello Police Department said Gutierrez-Guerrero still has an outstanding felony warrant in Texas, which he will serve after his sentence in Washington.

The Othello Police Department also said the previous victim is now an adult and that she said herself and her child were “healthy and thriving.”
