UMATILLA INDIAN RESERVATION, Ore. – Officials from the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation are applauding a recent decision by Oregon lawmakers. The new bill allocates $2.5 million to the Oregon Water Resources Department for water projects in the Walla Walla Basin.
The funding will support various types of water projects, as explained by the CTUIR Habitat Conservation Project Leader. The money will be used to implement six project types identified in the Walla Walla Water 2050 Plan.
These projects include floodplain restoration, fish passage improvement, and habitat restoration in Mill Creek.
Washington State is contributing $2.4 million in matching funds to help implement these initiatives, which are integral to the Walla Walla Water 2050 Plan.
