One dead after Benton, Grant county line collision

BENTON COUNTY, Wash.–UPDATE 4:49 P.M.:

James Sandall, 68, died as a result of the collision, according to a Washington State Patrol press memo.

Sandall, who was driving with one passenger in the car, turned left out of a rest stop to go east on State Route 24, according to the press memo. While turning, Sandall hit another car travelling west.

He died at Kadlec Regional Medical Center, and next of kin was notified, according to the press memo. The passenger in Sandall’s car and the driver of the second car were transported to Kadlec as well.

A two-vehicle collision on SR 24 by the Vernita Rest Area is temporarily halting traffic.

Drivers should expect delays on SR 24 and Highway 243 on the Benton and Grant County line, according to the Benton County Sherriff’s Office.
