SPOKANE, Wash. – Omnicell, a Delaware-based company, agreed to pay $4,366,660 to resolve claims of overbilling the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District the claims stemmed from a federal contract with the VA between January 2017 and February 2023.

Omnicell allegedly failed to charge correct prices for medical device hardware and software. Some issues were corrected, but a systemic analysis to identify all affected customers was not conducted.

In August 2023, a former Omnicell employee filed a qui tam complaint under the False Claims Act, leading to the investigation.

As part of the settlement, the whistleblower will receive $785,998.80. Additionally, $2,183,330 will be returned to the VA as restitution.

“Veterans who served our country deserve the best health care possible,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Barker. He appreciated Omnicell’s acceptance of responsibility and steps to comply with billing obligations.
