SPOKANE, Wash. – Deputies with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) responded to a call about a disorderly man on a Spokane Transit Authority (STA) bus on July 29.

Deputies arrived at the STA Hastings Park and Ride on N Mayfair Road around 9:35 a.m. where the man, nude from the waist down, was acting erratically, claiming there were rattlesnakes on the bus, SCSO said in a release.

The first deputy on the scene attempted to gain the man’s cooperation. However, investigators said the man became noncompliant, refused to exit the bus and resisted arrest.

Additional deputies arrived to assist, and after a struggle, the man was handcuffed.

Medical personnel were called due to his high body temperature and overexertion. He was sedated and transported to the hospital for further care.

Deputies said they noted his excessive sweating and hallucinations as symptoms of possible excited delirium.

After being medically cleared, the man was booked into the Spokane County Jail on several charges, including Assault 3rd Degree and Indecent Exposure.

Deputies also forwarded information to mental health professionals.

SCSO said one deputy sustained minor injuries, but no bus riders or employees were harmed during the incident.
